Predictability in the Leaving Certificate examination

 

One of the three key directions identified for action in the work of the Transition Reform group supporting a better transition from second level to higher education is that "the NCCA and the State Examination Commission (SEC) will develop proposals to address any problematic predictability identified in an analysis of predictability in the Leaving Certificate examinations." To support this work, the SEC commissioned an independent external evaluation of Predictability in the Leaving Certificate Examination from assessment experts at Oxford University in collaboration with Queen's University, Belfast. The research is now complete and the SEC has been asked by the Department of Education and Skills for advice on the report's findings and issues raised by the researchers for consideration in an Irish context.

The reports on the independent external review were carried out by the Oxford University Centre for Educational Assessment and Queen's University, Belfast. There is an overall report and four detailed working papers:
