Leaving Certificate Politics and Society 2019 – Phase 1 Subject Pilot 2016-2019

Politics and Society was examined for the first time at the 2018 Leaving Certificate. The new subject was introduced in September 2016 in 41 schools participating in an initial subject pilot. The subject is only available to Leaving Certificate students in these 41 schools. This means that the examination in the new subject will be limited to students of the pilot schools at the 2019 Leaving Certificate examinations. The subject consists of a final written examination worth 80% of the marks and a coursework component, a Citizenship Project Report to be completed under the supervision of the class teacher, worth 20% of the marks available for the subject.

The following documents which relate to the 2019 Citizenship Project are for the attention of teachers and students of Leaving Certificate Politics and Society in the pilot schools.

The Citizenship Project Report must be completed by 3 May 2019.

NOTE: While the pilot is ongoing, the SEC will not accept examination entries for Politics and Society from schools and students outside of the initial subject pilot. It is intended that this subject will be rolled out nationally for Leaving Certificate students commencing in September 2018.
