The Project Maths curricular development initiative involves the phased development and introduction of new syllabuses in Mathematics for both Junior Certificate and Leaving Certificate students. In each case, the syllabus has five strands and is being introduced in three phases. Phase 1 involves the introduction of Strands 1 and 2, Phase 2 involves the additional introduction of Strands 3 and 4, and Phase 3 involves the additional introduction of Strand 5. The content of the previous syllabus is phased out as the new material is phased in.
In addition, the various phases have been introduced in an initial group of 24 schools two years ahead of all other schools. The experiences of these schools are helping to inform the finalisation of the syllabus at each phase.
You can find comprehensive information about Project Maths on the website of the National Council for Curriculum and Assessment (NCCA), at: www.ncca.ie/projectmaths. The syllabus documents both for the initial schools and for all other schools are available there. Further resources, including teaching and learning resources, are available at the website of the Project Maths Development Team, which is the support service for teachers, at: www.projectmaths.ie.
